lsb#12: cyberpunk and cigarettes. an interview with William Gibson (1990/2013)

In 1990, science fiction author William Gibson was a guest at the "Ars Electronica Festival" in Linz. He gave some lectures, partly together with fellow cyberpunk writer Bruce Sterling. I met William Gibson on the eve of the festival at the congress centre Brucknerhaus. He granted me an interview, which took place two days later in the same location and to which I invited some colleagues from other media that had not managed to get an appointment. Unfortunately, the audio recordings of the interview are lost in time. A part of our talk has been conserved on VHS, though. Dietmar Postl, a friend of mine who emigrated to the US many years ago, operated the camera. The poor sound quality is caused by recording the interview with the camera microphone. The video contains digital edited VHS-footage from September 1990.
